Regency Care of Sterling.Berniece was born March 10, 1922, in Milledgeville, the daughter of John and Mary (Glenn) Magill. She married Howard Anschutz on Oct. 15, 1955, in Morrison. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1992. Berniece worked as a legal secretary for Ward, Murray, Pace & Johnson for 40 years and retired in 2004. She enjoyed reading and had a love for music. She liked to sing and could play the piano by ear. Most of all, Berniece loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Barry) Johnson of Dixon; her two sons, John (Elizabeth) Anschutz of Sterling and Alan (Linda) Anschutz of Sterling; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. She married Mark Spencer on March 16, 1984, in Sterling. She was a member of Living Bread Fellowship Church in Sterling.Survivors include her father, Robert Thompson of Sterling; her husband, Mark Spencer of Sterling; one daughter, Destiny (Robert) Vavrosky of Reynolds; one son, Shane (Lacey McBride) Nicewanner of Rock Falls; four sisters, Debbie (Audie) Roselieb of Garden Plain, Kathryn Polk of Las Vegas, Rebecca (Serafine) Aguilar of Mexico and Angel Hauser of Moline; one brother, Michael Thompson of Austin, Texas; and four grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her mother, and one son, Alex, in infancy.A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m., and a memorial service at 11 a.m. today at Living Bread Fellowship Church in Sterling, with the Rev. She married John Helms on Aug. 18, 1973, in Sterling.Survivors include her husband, John Helms of Milledgeville; one daughter, Crystal Helms-Woodward of Dixon; one son, James D. (Sherry) Smith of Milledgeville; one sister, Alberta Weber of La Crosse, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Tracy Helms-McDaniel; one son, Darren Smith and one brother, Jerry Miller.Cremation rites have been accorded.
